What does every guidance protocol need?
The day of care each instruction refers to, the instruction in one sentence the patient understands, the signs that call for the team, and who approved the version.
Why write short sentences?
Because the answer to the patient will quote the sentence. One sentence per instruction makes it clear where each answer came from, and it's easy to fix when the team changes its mind.
What doesn't belong in a guidance protocol?
Prescriptions and dose changes. Those are decisions for whoever is treating, case by case. The protocol guides what the clinic already decided for everyone; anything outside it goes to the team.
How do you keep it up to date?
With versions: each approved change becomes a new version, and an older answer keeps quoting the version that was valid when it was given.
